Monitoring flagged a 12-minute spike in outbound SMTP queue depth. Some emails were delayed by 5–15 minutes.
Root cause identified: upstream DNS resolver intermittently timing out during MX lookups.
Switched to redundant resolver. Queue cleared within 8 minutes. All delayed emails delivered. No data loss.
Added a second fallback DNS resolver and implemented automatic failover. Alert threshold lowered from 5 min to 90 seconds.
Node-03 load average spiked to 48 (normal: ~12). Approximately 180 accounts on this node experienced 2–4 second response times.
Runaway cron job on one account identified and terminated. CloudLinux LVE limits prevented broader impact. Node returned to normal load within 3 minutes.
Tightened per-account LVE cron limits. Added automatic kill for processes exceeding 120s CPU time on shared nodes.
