Google My Business is the single most valuable free tool for Indian local businesses. When someone searches "bakery near me" or "plumber in Jaipur", Google shows a map pack with 3 businesses — and those businesses get 70% of the clicks. Here's how to get your business into that map pack.

Step 1: Create Your Listing

Go to business.google.com and sign in with a Google account. Click "Add your business" and fill in your business name, category, and address. Be precise — use the exact business name on your signboard and the complete address including pin code.

Step 2: Verify Your Business

Google sends a postcard with a verification code to your business address. This takes 5–14 days in India. Some businesses qualify for phone or email verification. Enter the code when it arrives — your listing goes live immediately after.

Step 3: Optimize Your Profile

Step 4: Collect Reviews

Reviews are the #1 ranking factor for local search. After every positive customer interaction, send them your Google review link via WhatsApp. Aim for 20+ reviews in your first month. Reply to every review — positive and negative.

Step 5: Post Regular Updates

Google My Business has a "Posts" feature — use it weekly. Share offers, new products, events, or tips. Active listings rank higher than dormant ones.

💡 The NAP rule: Your Name, Address, and Phone number must be identical everywhere online — your website, Google My Business, Facebook, Justdial, IndiaMART. Inconsistencies confuse Google and hurt your ranking.
